Niantic and Scopely have prepared a grand finale with two back-to-back events: Mega Ascension and Mega Shutdown , which will take place between late August and early September. Both events share a common theme: Mega Evolution, with Mega Raids, themed habitats, Special Research, and a revamped GO Pass that will allow players to choose their own path.
The first event, Mega Ascension, will begin on August 31 at 10:00 a.m. local time and run until September 4 at 23:59 p.m. During this time, Trainers can participate in a Timed Research task that requires them to choose between Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie. Completing it will reward them with the GO Pass: Mega Shutdown, which includes rewards designed to help their Pokémon Mega Evolve. Additionally, the Remote Raid limit will be increased to 30, and Pokémon caught in Mega Raids will have a special Mega Evolution-themed background.
Megascension: preparing the ground
Mega Ascension isn't just a teaser; it features its own schedule of raid bosses and wild Pokémon. Each day will have a different star in the Mega Raids: on August 31, Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite, and Mega Malamar will appear; on September 1, it will be Mega Falinks' turn; on September 2, Mega Skarmory; on September 3, Mega Starmie; and on September 4, Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. It's the perfect opportunity to stock up on Mega Energy and prepare your best fighters for the big event this weekend.
During this period, Pokémon caught in Mega Raids will have a special Mega Evolution-themed background, a detail that collectors will appreciate. In addition, the increased Remote Raid limit of 30 will allow the most active players to participate in numerous battles without having to travel. The combination of bonuses and the rotating bosses makes Mega Ascension a very complete event on its own, but it's just the beginning.
Mega-Clausura: The Grand Finale with Mega-Mewtwo
The main event is the Mega Closing, which will take place on September 5th and 6th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (local time). The event will feature Mega Mewtwo X on the 5th and Mega Mewtwo Y on the 18th , two of the most powerful and sought-after Mega Evolved forms in the game. To ensure everyone has a chance to participate, there will be no limit on Remote Raids during those two days, a decision that will make it easier for players worldwide to join in.
In addition to the two Mewtwo, the Mega Raids will be organized by habitats that will rotate every hour. On September 5, Trainers can face Mega Beedrill, Mega Victreebel, Mega Pinsir, and Mega Abomasnow in Verdant Grove; Mega Alakazam, Mega Slowbro, Mega Starmie, and Mega Medicham in Mind Channel; Mega Gengar, Mega Houndoom, Mega Banette, and Mega Malamar in Spooky Alley; and Mega Raichu X, Mega Ampharos, and Mega Manectric in Raceway Plaza. On September 6, the habitats will change: Iron Ice with Mega Steelix, Mega Skarmory, Mega Aggron, and Mega Glalie; Battle District with Mega Sharpedo, Mega Camerupt, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Falinks; Star Nests with Mega-Gyarados, Mega-Aerodactyl, Mega-Dragonite and Mega-Altaria; and Fantastic Rambla with Mega-Raichu Y, Mega-Sableye, Mega-Mawile and Mega-Audino.
Throughout the weekend, all Mega-Evolved Pokémon will receive an additional CP boost, which can make all the difference in close battles. Furthermore, many Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution will appear in the wild during the event, giving players the chance to catch Pokémon with good IVs and prepare them for future battles.
GO Pass: Mega Closure and other new features
The GO Pass: Mega Shutdown is one of the biggest new features of this event. It's a free, limited-time progression path that lets players earn rewards as they collect GO Points. Trainers will automatically receive it upon completing the Mega Ascension Timed Research and can continue to gain levels until September 4. There's also the option to upgrade to the GO Pass Deluxe for $4,99 USD, which offers better rewards and faster progression, or the GO Pass Deluxe + 6 Levels for $6,99 USD, which lets you jump straight to level 7. Unlocked rewards will expire on September 24 at 20:00 p.m. local time, so be sure to claim them before they expire.
Another important new feature is the arrival of the super max level for some Pokémon. Starting with the Mega Squad event, players will be able to Mega Level up Mega Beedrill and Mega Houndoom to the super max level, allowing them to learn additional Charged Attacks like Lethal Sting+ and Dark Pulse+. To reach this level, Mega Energy will be required, which can be obtained by participating in Mega Raids and catching Pokémon such as Weedle, Pidgey, Houndour, and Carvanha during the event.
